And he designed high-tech tools for the time to cut and polish the finest stone available. In 1893, slate from his quarry won a blue ribbon at the Columbian Exposition at Chicago. Customers included the Natural History Museum in New York, where you can see the red slates on the roof even to this day. 130 years later, my passion is quarrying too.
