Beyond the Assignment Brief: How to Approach OTHM Assignment Tasks With Greater Confidence
Hello OTHM students!
I am an OTHM-certified Health and Safety Consultant with over 7 years of experience in this industry. Now, and even while I was pursuing my OTHM qualification, I have always noticed one pattern among students when writing assignments.
They open an assignment brief, read the first task, and the first tension is either “how am I supposed to cover this word count?” or they immediately start writing the task without performing the necessary steps beforehand. Well, these worries are valid, but they are rarely the biggest challenge of writing a high-quality OTHM assignment.
The priority should be to know what the assignment brief is asking you.
I have always approached OTHM assignment briefs as a roadmap. Once you learn how to read that roadmap, research becomes more focused, writing becomes easier, and the whole OTHM assignment feels less intimidating.
Start with the Brief, Not Google
The urge to ask Google about everything before you even think for a while is real. But it hinders critical thinking.
Before researching any journal, article, or even opening a blank document on Google Docs, I have always taken time to read and understand the assignment brief.
I look at the learning outcomes, assessment criteria, task instructions, and evidence recommendations first. I also check for specific formatting, structuring, and referencing guidelines.
After that, it’s time to break down the assessment criteria.
Let’s understand this from one of the OTHM assignment questions I had taken:
● Impact of leadership style on employee engagement and motivation, and recommendations to improve it.
For this assignment question, my first thought was not “I need to write an assignment on leadership”; instead, I asked myself:
● Which aspect of leadership do I have to work on?
● What does this criterion require me to explain?
● What evidence will demonstrate that I have fulfilled the AC?
Asking yourself relevant questions about the assignment and OTHM assignment guidelines honestly makes half of the work easier.
Make Your Research Work for You
If you are someone who believes that good research means collecting numerous sources, you need to stop right there!
The following are the steps I worked with while writing my OTHM assignment:
● Criterion
● Question
● Evidence
● Analysis
● Conclusion
For every section, I ask myself what I am trying to demonstrate. But thr first time I followed this, I got confused, and this is when I took professional OTHM Assignment Writing Services for a little bit more clarity and assurance that I am progressing on the right track.
Confidence Comes From Preparation
I have noticed that students boost their confidence the moment they stop asking “What can I do to make my assignment lengthier?” and start asking “How can I make every section of my assignment purposeful?”
Remember that good evidence means gathering credible, relevant, and timely data. So never fall for collecting numerous sources because there are no special marks for a long reference list.
Read the brief meticulously before even writig a word, and also create an outline to properly manage and organise your OTHM assignment.
